I started thinking about this as I was writing my bio on this blog. Who are the 100 women I admire the most, who have had an impact on my life? I'm going to start posting about them.
What about you? Who are the 100 women you admire the most? If you want to play, they can be any woman, living or dead, real or fictional. You don't have to have been related, or known her personally. Post your comment about who she is (or was) and how she influenced you and what you admire most about her.
If this gets passed around and you invite even one other person to post, this could get very interesting, very fast!

Dr. Susan Steffens
I admire and thank Dr. Susan Steffens, graduate of Harvard Medical School, for her dedication to her clients.
This magnificent woman overcame the perscution of the male dominated group of physicans in our little conserative community and forged a career for herself as a respected physician.
Dr. Steffens has diagnosed or suspected cancer in four women that I know personally. She incouraged them to seek treatment with doctors who specialize in the area of the suspected cancer. All four were treated and recovered.
I was one of those women who needed and advocate because my health had become so compromised people believed I was just lazy. I had been misdiagnosed for over 12 years by the the doctors my HMO would allow me to see. I was bleeding so it had to be Menopause. I was pumped full of hormones given multiple drugs all to no avail. Not one doctor looked at my history or attemped to find out what was really wrong with me. As long as I returned every month to the clinic they had no reason to investigate. I was money in the bank.
A simple bladder infection mistreated and ignored for twelve years became cancer. Doctors never followed up to see if the infection was cleared up. My health worsened and my visits increased to the doctor. They were getting angry with me for not getting better and refusing to take the drugs that caused me more problems.
I was incouraged to see Dr. Steffens by a friend. I knew her and felt she didn't approve of me and didn't know her well enough to understand she needed to keep her distance. I made an appointment and saw her three months later. Good doctors are hard to get into to see. She performed the D&C I needed to remove the excess tissue from being given too many hormones and when she saw nothing to cause the bleeding I was experiencing she scoped my bladder.
She had looked at my history and educated herself on my bladder complaints. A simple bladder infection that went untreated had become low grade cancer.
Since my HMO no longer reconizes or treats low grade cancer without the advocacy of Dr. Steffens my cancer would have been ignored by the medical community. I would still be lying on the sofa waiting for my life to end.
So with my sincere graditude I share the greatness of this exceptional woman and doctor. Dr. Susan Steffens a canidate for woman and doctor of the year.
My life and attitude have improved and I love life and living because of her skill and moral integraty.
Thank you Dr. Steffens for giving me back my life.
Okay, I'm starting my list of the 100 Women I admire most. I will come back and add more names later on...and by the way, this is in no particular order....But please feel free to start your own list - you can put down one woman's name or ten or 100 if you want!
1. Louise Humphrey (my mom)She has always been there for us, and is a woman of grace, humor and wisdom.
2. Sydna Uteg - my friend who has overcome much in her life, and yet always greets each new day with humor and courage.
3. Princess Diana Because she walked her walk. Her children were always first, and she wasn't afraid to support a cause whether it was "politically correct" or not.
4. Mother Teresa - another woman who was more than she first appeared to be. She saw what needed to be done and just went out and did it.
5. Gwen Orwiler - a woman of great courage, humor and heart. She's someone who shows what women can do when they set their minds to working on a big idea.
Gwen is a former single mother who worked tirelessly on social justice issues, now she is selling real estate and helping first time home buyers - including single moms, buy their homes.
And she's doing something really incredible for her 50th birthday. She's decided to raise $50,000 to give to a charity that helps others - and she's donating $1000 from every house she sells this year! I think that's pretty amazing. Here's the charity's Website:
